No Soul for Sale Exhibition at the Tate Modern:

Notes and photographs from the Tate Modern Energy and Process Exhibition:

(*Note not all pages of research have been posted on my blog yet as details and notes are still to be added to them at this stage)

More Ident Research:

Continuation of Ident Research: Virgin 17: The Logo is Revealed
As I have never before created an ident, I needed to undertake some thorough research into the already existing layouts and examples.
Below is an ident for MTV Dance created by the motion graphics company view, created in 2009.

Research into the European arts and culture channel Arte:

Tutorial notes from 12th and 13th May:

Double page for book explaining a very initial idea that I have for my installation and where the idea came from:

The image below represents a weeks collection of TV listings from channels Sky Arts 1 and 2. I collaborated all of these into one page to discover the common programs shown as well as common genres. Highlighted are the seven subject matters that I would like to pursue further as basis for the idents.

Eco Friendly
Rock Bands
Ballet
Books
Piano/ Orchestral
Animation
Art

As mentioned in my tutorial 'Theatre,' actor documentaries and drama is another aspect that the Sky Arts channels cover.

Initial Proposal for the Sky Arts Stings

Sent from Kristen Bjaastad from Sky, forwarded from Liz Friedman

Art Stings:

Art Stings is a competition for Design/Animation students in association with Sky Arts and Sky Creative. This is open to students through the UK.

Framework:

We will ask participants to design and produce a 10 second HD video piece that creates a mechanism to reveal the word ‘Arts’. We would like to keep the brief very open: they are free to use any medium they like to achieve this. All we ask is that the piece produced is entirely their own and infringes no other copyright. To assist with this we might provide a package of Sky’s own music clips to work with.

A judging panel (John Cassy, Sophie Turner-Lange, Mike Hurst, etc) will choose 2 or 3 winners to broadcast on the channel.

The winning pieces would then be broadcast during the Sky Arts presentation breaks complete with the designer/producer’s end credit.

In order to assure that we maintain quality control, we are building production time into our schedule to allow us to make sure the winning pieces are produced to an HD standard. We are not offering to make the pieces for them but rather creating some time and space for us to ensure that the work is finessed and ready to air. It might be that the winners come to Sky to assist in the final ‘on line’ edit of their pieces.

The fun doesn’t stop there. We want to host a gallery of the ‘stand out’ submissions on the Sky Arts website that can run throughout the year.

A First Prize winner could get a month of work experience at Sky. Cash prize is always nice but we view real broadcast airtime as the true prize.

Why should we do this?

In 2008 Sky Creative has launched an industry/design education forum that aims to create a greater connection between the two sectors. We gather at the New Designers Event in July and talk about the issues surrounding the transition into the working world. This is a great networking event but we all feel to need to make it more than a ‘talking shop’. Arts Stings was an idea hatched in this forum as a response to the desire to make it real….

Suggested Schedule:

September: send out call for submissions

December: end of entry period

January: judging period

End of Jan: winners announced

March: final technical prep for Broadcast

April: broadcast winning entries

Costs:

There will be some costs associated the final production work. With this in mind we have spoken to Mike Hurst about using our facilities to do this. There might also be some costs around the creation and hosting of the on line gallery.
